So yesterday, I was honoured to spend an hour and half with Deputy Minister of Education and member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency in the Ashanti Region,Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. We discussed urban land use planning ( both of us are graduates of Land Economy from KNUST) that ensures inclusivity of all classes of people and emphasises community ownership of services, the benefits of decentralised governance and crucially the future of education and what it must take for Ghana to score big on access, quality and relevance. There is progress, but a lot more needs doing. We both agreed there must be a co-sharing of responsibility for better education outcomes with parents, teachers , businesses and the state. Teacher supervision and school management must succeed even if it means exploring outsourced management for struggling schools. We agreed we will disagree sometimes over policy, but we all want the good for Ghana. Amazing stuff. By the way, his boss, the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO and Hon. Muntaka of the NDC are my great buddies too. We were instrumental in the passage of the Health Bill in 2011 during Late President Atta Mills’ time. And I and IMANI need to pay an official visit to NAPO. By the way, Dr. Adutwum is running unopposed for parliament on the ticket of the NPP. Ghana has a great future with him. Amazing!!
