Invitation to IMANI Public Lecture: “The Present and Next Revolution: How digitization is redefining Everything”

On 22nd February, IMANI Africa will hold a Public Lecture on the theme “The Present and Next Revolution: How digitization is redefining Everything”. The Lecture will be led by IMANI’s Fellow, Franklin Asare, a director at Oracle Corporation, responsible for Industry Solutions Architecture for the Financial Services Industry in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Franklin has one of the most respected roles within Oracle.

Background

Over the last two decades the internet has transformed everything – from our personal to professional lives – and how international systems work. Its impact has become so pervasive that the internet is now not only about “dotcoms” and websites but an inevitable feature of every-day life.

The advent of the internet has led to the digitization of how businesses deliver their services and products, how governments make decisions, how education and health services are delivered.

Yet, the evolution of the subject matter has been a topic of serious debates: the protagonists of internet technology and digitization fiercely argue that majority of life-changing innovations would not exist without such tools, and that such tools are innovations on their own. They argue that innovations are a core part of human life. Others, however, hold contrary views and posit that digital innovations have been the enablers of grave societal, political and moral evils plaguing different parts of the world.
