UNAIDS Ghana has received a Special Award at the 6th edition of IMANI Inspirational Public Sector Leadership Awards (IPSLA) held on December 22 2016 at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel.
IPSLA is a prestigious annual public service excellence award that rewards Public Sector Institutions in Ghana based on the successful and effective delivery of service to their stakeholders in the year under review.
The Special Award was presented to UNAIDS Ghana for their dedicated service leadership and development of partnership in the fight against AIDS in Ghana.
Ghana has made significant strides in its AIDS response through integrated multisectoral HIV responses that provide lessons learned for western Africa. Ghana reduced new HIV infections by 53% between 2001 and 2014 and AIDS-related deaths by 45% in the same period. According to 2008 and 2014 demographic and health surveys, HIV testing among women almost doubled between 2008 and 2014.
These accomplishments have been achieved thanks to the dedicated leadership and quality service delivery of UNAIDS Ghana.
The citation of the Special Award presented to UNAIDS Ghana reads:
“For dedicated service leadership and development of partnership in the fight against AIDS in Ghana and for your role in effective social mobilization on prevention of new HIV infection among the youth, policy review and legislation of the revised HIV Law that enhances anti stigma and discrimination.
You managed to bring issues of HIV policy, financing of the AIDS response, and awareness of HIV prevention to all sectors that included political and cultural leaders, media, urban communities, celebrities and civil society organisation’s. Your service in Ghana has been remarkable and appreciated by all.”
Top Five Awardees for 2016
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has been adjudged the most inspirational public institution for the year under review.
The Electoral Commission, the Ministry of Health, the National health Insurance Authority and the National Commission for Civic Education won the second, third , fourth and fifth positions respectively. Read more about the Awards here.
